…but really, the flux’s smoke is bad for you… and if you have lead content wire then don’t be sticking the solder stick in your mouth or like eating with dirtied fingers.. a little isn’t going to affect you, but it’s the long-term accumulation

If I have a panel producing 18V can I put it directly on my battery to charge it?
I will need a converter (to make 230V 50Hz AC) on the other side (computer, light bulbs etc) and that’s it?
Would it be more efficient to use a 24V battery (what charge voltage, 36V?) instead of a 12V car one?

Dan / Denise: Soldering those solar cells together is a real pain in the butt. I made a huge mess. I am sure everyone could hear my comments at least a 100 miles away. I took time away from the project and try again.

Either I am crazy, or the cost of solar cells has dropped by 400% in the last six months. Go on e-bay and have a look. I bought a kit of brand new cells that only cost me 50 cents a watt! They’re rated at 16% efficiency.
